Fiebing’s Vintage Gel is an antiquing finish made to create a two-toned, aged appearance on natural leather. It settles into recessed areas to emphasize hand tooling, stamping, carving, and embossed detail while leaving a softer layer of color across the raised surface.
The gel consistency gives you more control than a thin liquid finish, making it easier to work the product into detailed areas without it running across the leather too quickly. Apply the desired amount to a dry, soft cloth or piece of sheepskin, then work it into the leather using small circular motions until the surface has an even overall color.
Remove the excess immediately with a clean, soft cloth. Continue rubbing the surface until the raised areas are clean and the leather develops a mellow gloss. Leaving more gel in the recessed areas creates stronger contrast, while removing more produces a lighter, more subtle antique effect.
Vintage Gel works well on belts, wallets, notebook covers, holsters, sheaths, leather shapes, and other natural leather projects where added depth, contrast, and an aged patina are desired.
Please Note: Allow the gel to dry completely before applying a compatible top finish for the final seal. Always test on a scrap piece before applying it to the finished project, as the final appearance will vary depending on the leather, tooling depth, surface texture, and amount of product removed.

"The dark brown is a little light. My usual routine is leather dye, let dry, oil, let dry and then some resolene before applying antique paste and some more resolene to wipe off excess. I should have probably oiled it after application to get it to go darker. I’ll have to play with it but I like the color. A little does not go a long way, either."
