We're always looking for ways to make your life a little easier! How many of you have wanted to experiment with different, unique oil tans for journal covers and other small projects, but didn't want to buy a whole side? That's exactly what the Journal Makers Oil Tan Bundle is for.
Each bundle contains approximately 30–35 Sq. Ft. of assorted leather, usually made up of 6–8 different pieces averaging around 3–6 Sq. Ft. each. Weights can range from about 2½ oz. up through 5–6 oz., giving you a useful mix of lighter and heavier leathers to work with. Most pieces will be oil tan, although you may occasionally receive a leather that isn't technically oil tanned but has the same kind of look, feel, and working characteristics we want for this bundle.
That's what makes this bundle so useful—you get to work with several different leathers without committing to an entire side of each one. Distressed surfaces, pull-up, different grains, tempers, and finishes give you plenty of options for making journals that don't all look like they came off the same workbench.
Journal covers are the obvious choice, and many simple journal designs use surprisingly little leather. Some need stitching, some work beautifully with just a little lacing, and others can be built with a simple wrap-around leather tie. These leathers are also useful for clutches, wristbands, cuffs, personal accessories, smaller bags, messenger bags, and other projects where assorted pieces can be put to good use.
And here's another one to try: many of these leathers are a dream to use a wood burner on! – Kevin
Please Note: Every bundle is different. Leather type, color, grain, finish, temper, thickness, and individual piece size will vary depending on what is available when your bundle is assembled. Some pieces may not be true oil tan but will have similar characteristics and be selected because we think they'll make a great journal or small leather project.
