Bellies are an often overlooked asset for leather workers wanting to make projects at a bargain. Belly leather is sometimes thought of solely as scrap or practice leather. But, when used properly, it can be made into high quality projects on par with back or bend projects. Bellies are the lower part of the animal. Because of their proximity to an animal's legs, they have softer parts where their legs meet the rest of the body. While those parts will be spongy, stretchy, and flanky, the remainder of the belly is often as good as the rest of the hide. Bellies make for great casual belts and smaller projects, granted you work around the flanky bits. If you're looking to increase toughness, bellies can also be combined with other pieces for extra strength and stiffness
