This is a mix of medium grade, American tanned sides. There might be a brand on it, or it might have some oxidized areas, or maybe even some off-kilter grain issues. But, while it's not perfect, it's pretty darned good. Hugely popular with holster & sheath makers because of its molding & oiling properties. If you're tooling on it... you will be spoiled rotten! This is one of our top selling leathers, and for good reason.
Since 1881, Hermann Oak has been tanning top-grain leather right here in Missouri. St. Louis-based, the company prides itself on its slow and careful tanning process. A process that produces the finest top-grain stamping and tooling leather in the world. The Hermann Oak name has become synonymous with high quality!

"Craftsman grade is accurate whatsoever! This is some of the best tooling leather I’ve worked with."
"Great leather. I use this for belt and holster lining. I also use the odds and ends pieces for wallets."
"My go-to place for Hermann Oak natural veg-tan leather. Springfield Leather has it and gets it to me when I need it. I use this leather for all of my wallets."
"Very nice leather I will order this again"
"Was in need of skirting leather to make a set of Tapaderos. I phoned and spoke with customer service to make sure I had enough width and length in 5 sq. ft. for my pattern. Very helpful conversation and my order was received perfectly sized. The leather quality was excellent. I would certainly recommend Springfield Leather to a family member."
"Some areas of loose grain, but excellent for practice and smaller pieces"
"Great to have an option to buy blemished HO by the square foot. Excellent for practice or small pieces"
"Great value for Herman Oak leather. My 4 sqft didn't have any blimishes."
"I have had some pretty good orders in my previous orders. This time when I bought my 5 sq ft if 8-9oz there was a pretty bad spot in a piece of it that makes most of that square foot unusable for me. I know it's Craftsman grade so I am not giving a bad review, I don't expect perfect. But this piece just was the piece that has the worst imperfection of any order I've placed. So I want real happy with that part of the order. I'm going to have to order more and try to get what orders I can of smaller projects or of it. But the 4-5oz Craftsman grade was really nice. So, nothing I have stated is to give negative feedback because, over all, I love SLC. Everyone has always been awesome."
