Hermann Oak Craftsman Grade

Hermann Oak Craftsman Grade

This is a mix of medium grade, American tanned sides. There might be a brand on it, or it might have some oxidized areas, or maybe even some off-kilter grain issues. But, while it's not perfect, it's pretty darned good. Hugely popular with holster & sheath makers because of its molding & oiling properties. If you're tooling on it... you will be spoiled rotten! This is one of our top selling leathers, and for good reason.

Since 1881, Hermann Oak has been tanning top-grain leather right here in Missouri. St. Louis-based, the company prides itself on its slow and careful tanning process. A process that produces the finest top-grain stamping and tooling leather in the world. The Hermann Oak name has become synonymous with high quality!

Great Customer Service

"Was in need of skirting leather to make a set of Tapaderos. I phoned and spoke with customer service to make sure I had enough width and length in 5 sq. ft. for my pattern. Very helpful conversation and my order was received perfectly sized. The leather quality was excellent. I would certainly recommend Springfield Leather to a family member."

Craftsman grade

"Great value for Herman Oak leather. My 4 sqft didn't have any blimishes."

I love SLC

"I have had some pretty good orders in my previous orders. This time when I bought my 5 sq ft if 8-9oz there was a pretty bad spot in a piece of it that makes most of that square foot unusable for me. I know it's Craftsman grade so I am not giving a bad review, I don't expect perfect. But this piece just was the piece that has the worst imperfection of any order I've placed. So I want real happy with that part of the order. I'm going to have to order more and try to get what orders I can of smaller projects or of it. But the 4-5oz Craftsman grade was really nice. So, nothing I have stated is to give negative feedback because, over all, I love SLC. Everyone has always been awesome."

First order

"Got my first order of good leather as I’m just getting into this. I was expecting blemishes and marks however one of my sides had a 5 inch hole in it. I understand it’s craftsman’s grade so take that statement with a grain of salt. The leather itself is amazing. I think I will be ordering at least B grade from now on though."

Herman Oak Craftsman Grade.

"If this is craftsman grade, can’t wait to try the top shelf. Nice stuff."

I'm impressed

"I've been hearing how good Herman Oak is and the piece I got of course is craftsman grade, I did two small carvings and I like how the leather reacts to the tools, the burnished look and how well it takes details. Definitely got to get more!!"

Jeffrey Q. (5/5)

Excellent leather!

"Great for the times you want a better leather, but your project doesnt require a top level leather! Tools great, and takes dye and antique great. Definitely use this leather when I want a better quality leather, but dont need the higher end Hermann Oak."

Cut marks in leather

"I ordered some leather to make some strops for knife sharpening. The leather I received had some knife cut marks that will prevent me from using part of the leather I ordered. I let them know what I was going to make with the leather and was surprised they would send me a piece that was partially unuseable for my purposes. If not for living 100 miles from the store I would have driven in and made the leather selection myself."

Worth the money.

"First time using Hermann Oak leather. It was easier to cut and took stain really well. Price wasn't too bad which is the main reason I have not used it before. Probably will not be the last time I use it now."
