Description

Leather Type: Cowhide
Tannage: Vegetable Tanned
Cut: Belt Bend
Average Size: 11–13 Sq. Ft.
Item Number: LTH015

Hermann Oak Belt Bends are cut from the premium center section of the hide, with the shoulder and belly removed to leave a cleaner, more uniform piece of leather. That makes the bend an excellent choice when you need long, consistent cuts for belts, straps, handles, and other projects where good yield matters. If you want to have the best, quite simply, this is it.

These bends are drum dyed, giving you Hermann Oak vegetable-tanned leather with the color already worked into the leather before you ever make the first cut. Most full bends will cut approximately 16–18 strips at 1½" wide, with many of those strips averaging around 52"–60" long.

Depending on the selected option, the surface may have a textured Haircell grain or a smoother finish. Haircell gives the leather a little more surface texture, while Smoothcell provides a cleaner, more traditional face. Both retain the firm body and working characteristics that make Hermann Oak a longtime favorite for belts, straps, carving, stamping, and other traditional leatherwork.

Hermann Oak has been vegetable tanning leather in St. Louis, Missouri since 1881. Their slow, traditional tanning process has made their leather a standard for makers who need dependable body, clean tooling, and leather that will hold up to years of use.

Please Note: This leather is offered in multiple weight options, so thickness is not listed as a permanent specification. Natural grain, scars, range marks, and other characteristics may be present and will vary from bend to bend.

Great for belts. Check your equipment.

"This is the second time I have purchased this brown Hermann Oak full belt bend from SLC. I’ve been able to produce 17 belts each time. This second one put up a fight, however. I broke 5 strap cutter blade while trying to cut my belts off the full piece. It seemed like one end was hard as a rock, and even my utility knife had a hard time cutting through, when I ditched the strap cutter and moved to a straight edge and blade. Not sure if this was a fluke, but I’ll definitely consider upgrading my equipment for the next time."
