Since 1881, Hermann Oak has been tanning top-grain leather right here in Missouri. St. Louis-based, the company prides itself on its slow and careful tanning process. A process that produces the finest top-grain stamping and tooling leather in the world. The Hermann Oak name has become synonymous with high quality! This is what Hermann Oak calls their B Grade, this leather will have the small amounts of surface defects/blemishes. Of course, it still has all the wonderful tooling and molding properties that you would expect from legendary Hermann Oak leather.
Fun fact: Hermann Oak supervisors grade all their leathers FOUR separate times! Their standards are regularly coordinated in group meetings, and the GRADING IS BASED SOLELY ON SURFACE IMPERFECTIONS LIKE SCARS AND BRANDS. The greatest emphasis is placed on the bend area (60%) followed by the shoulder area (25%) and the belly area (15%).

"To be honest this piece had a 4"x4" patch that was completely unusable. I called customer service and Angela ( who was excellent at her job) was ready to exchange it, but she helped me realize SLC gave me extra square footage to make up for defect. Wish they would have put that note on packing slip. Would have saved them a phone call. Lol I honesty love SLC almost as much as I love H. O. ! Being able to buy it by the square foot is fantastic. You pay more for it that way but it allows me to make all my projects out of only H. O. which in turn automatically improves the quailty of my work. In my opinion. Thanks again Angela.
