Hermann Oak Holster and Sheath Bellies are large, straight-edged belly cuts that give you an economical way to work with genuine Hermann Oak vegetable-tanned leather. Most are quite clean, with useful length for straps and enough usable area for holsters, sheaths, belts, cases, and other smaller leather projects.
Choose from Natural, Haircell, or Smoothcell finishes depending on the kind of project you have in mind. Natural bellies are unfinished vegetable-tanned leather and are a good choice when you want to carve, stamp, dye, oil, antique, or finish the leather yourself. Haircell options have a fine textured grain pressed into the surface, while Smoothcell options have a cleaner, smoother finished face and are ready to use without additional coloring.
Because these are belly cuts, they can have a little more natural stretch and variation than leather taken from the center of the hide. That makes them a practical choice for leatherworkers who want Hermann Oak quality without needing the cleaner, more uniform cutting area of a full side or bend.
Hermann Oak has been tanning leather in St. Louis, Missouri since 1881. Their traditional vegetable-tanning process produces firm leather that works especially well for tooling, molding, burnishing, and other classic leathercraft techniques.
Please Note: Available thicknesses vary by finish. Haircell and Smoothcell options are not available in every weight. As a natural leather cut, bellies may show variation in grain, shape, stretch, scars, wrinkles, and other surface characteristics.

So it seems that I have achieved some pretty decent results from comments by friends and family. I have read that Hermann Oak is the best tannery in the US. While I cannot attest to that, the leather I received is very nice, consistent thickness and beautiful top grain. Accepts dyes and finishes very well. Fun new hobby, really enjoying it."
