This natural vegetable-tanned sheepskin from OSM Leather in Turkey has an extremely soft, naked surface with very little standing between you and the natural character of the leather. It is surprisingly substantial at 3½–4 oz., but the temper is so soft you can practically wad the skin up like a rag.
Because the surface is unfinished, it readily absorbs moisture, dyes, oils, and finishes. That gives you plenty of freedom to determine the final appearance yourself, but it also means the leather should be protected with an appropriate finish when the completed project will see regular handling or exposure.
The combination of weight and softness makes this leather especially useful for soft bags, pouches, garments, linings, upholstery accents, and other projects where you want genuine vegetable-tanned leather with plenty of drape and flexibility.
OSM Leather produces these skins in Turkey, giving us a vegetable-tanned option that feels very different from the firm cowhide most leatherworkers picture when they hear “veg tan.”
Please Note: These skins are priced by the square foot, but we do not cut them. The entire skin must be purchased. Because the leather has a naked, unfinished surface, natural markings and variations will be visible, and moisture or handling may darken the leather until a finish is applied.

"INCREDIBLY SOFT. The description is not joking. I thought to myself, how soft could this possibly be? It's REALLY FREAKING SOFT. I am petting the flesh side like a cat (wow, that sounds creepy, but you'll understand if you buy it). It's really incredible. It's so soft I literally unwrapped it and immediately logged on to leave a review so that other people know. I kind of can't believe this is veg tan? and really can't believe it's 3-4 oz, but it is! I just measured it! It's SO soft. You really can crumple it up like fabric. I'll be using this for everything that needs to go next to the skin. I'm kind of obsessed. Will absolutely be buying more as soon as I can."
