S.B. Foot Dawson is a premium American-made leather with a smooth grain and a clean, semi-gloss finish. The surface has just enough sheen to look finished without becoming overly glossy, giving it a classic appearance that works especially well for structured leather goods.

At 5–6 oz. with a medium-firm temper, Dawson has plenty of body and feels more substantial in the hand than many softer oil tans. The grain side is remarkably smooth and consistent, while the flesh side has a clean golden appearance that can look good even when left exposed on an unlined project.

As the leather is handled and used, the surface can develop more sheen and character, giving finished pieces a richer, more polished appearance over time. That combination of structure, smooth grain, and clean flesh makes Dawson a strong choice for briefcases, backpacks, satchels, duffels, portfolios, belts, cases, and other leather goods where you want a firm, refined leather.

S.B. Foot has been tanning leather in Red Wing, Minnesota since 1872 and is closely tied to Red Wing’s long history of American bootmaking. Dawson represents the cleaner, more refined side of S.B. Foot leather: substantial, smooth, and built for projects where the quality of the leather can do most of the talking.
