Down here in the rolling hills of the Ozarks, we definitely have our fair share of Hillbillies. And much like the name suggests, S.B. Foot Hillbilly is made to have some character. This chrome-tanned cowhide has a smooth surface, medium-firm temper, and rich oil pull-up that gives the leather plenty of tonal movement as it bends, flexes, and gets put to work.

The oils worked into the leather create lighter highlights wherever the surface is stretched or folded, giving finished projects natural contrast without needing a heavily distressed finish. Scuffs, scratches, creases, and handling marks gradually become part of the look, helping the leather develop an increasingly individual appearance through use.

At 5–6 oz., Hillbilly has enough body for bags, satchels, duffels, backpacks, cases, notebook covers, footwear, panels, straps, and other everyday leather goods while remaining flexible enough to cut, fold, and sew comfortably. The smooth grain also makes it a good choice when you want the movement of a pull-up leather without a heavily pebbled or embossed surface.

Hillbilly is part of S.B. Foot’s Classic Collection. The tannery has been producing leather in Red Wing, Minnesota since 1872, and its long history in footwear shows in leathers like this one—made to be used, handled, scuffed, and allowed to develop character rather than stay perfectly untouched.

Please Note: Pull-up, scratches, scuffs, grain variation, and tonal changes are normal characteristics of this leather. Many surface marks can be blended by rubbing the leather with your fingers or a soft cloth as the oils move within the hide.
