Tokonole is a Japanese-made, water-based burnishing and slicking compound used to create smooth, polished leather edges and clean up fuzzy flesh sides. It is easy to spread, has very little odor, and works on both vegetable-tanned and chrome-tanned leather—one of the big advantages it has over many traditional burnishing products.
Its blend of natural waxes works into the leather fibers, helping bind and lay them down as you burnish. With friction from canvas, wood, glass, or another slicking tool, Tokonole can produce a tight, smooth edge with a glossy, almost glass-like finish. The finished surface remains flexible rather than forming a heavy coating on top of the leather.
For edges, start with a clean, smooth edge and bevel it if desired. Apply a thin coat of Tokonole with your finger, cloth, dauber, or scrap of leather, then rub briskly with canvas or an edge slicker. The friction helps compact and polish the fibers. Repeat with another light application if you want an even smoother finish.
Tokonole also works well for slicking the flesh side of leather. Spread an even layer over the fibers, then work it into the surface with a glass slicker, wood slicker, or similar tool. This helps flatten loose fibers and gives the back of the leather a cleaner, more finished appearance—especially useful for straps, wallets, belts, bags, and other projects where the flesh side may remain visible.
For best results, complete your dyeing, staining, or antiquing before applying Tokonole. Once the waxes have been worked into the leather, they can reduce how evenly dyes and stains penetrate the treated area.
Please Note: Water based. DO NOT FREEZE. Results can vary depending on the leather, so test on a scrap or inconspicuous area when working with an unfamiliar leather or finishing process.

"I’m fortunate to be a frequent visitor to Springfield on business. Folks really need to visit in order to get the most out of this company and the variety it offers. Don’t get me wrong, their website is great, it’s just that there are tons of “specials” in bins outside the front entrance you’re never going to know about unless you are there in the flesh. I always seem to find a super bargain there and my most recent was no exception. From low cost sides to exotic print scraps, there’s something for most everyone.
